The Isar River that runs through Munich actually starts in the Alps in Tyrol, Austria. It enters Germany near Mittenwald, through Munich and then joins the Danube at Deggendorf. The river flows right along the English Garden in Munich and part of it, the Eisbach, flows through the gardens. You’ll be able to watch a group of river surfers along the part of the Eisbach near the Haus der Kunst, a museum that was approved by the Nazis for Germanic art. The water gushes over some concrete blocks creating a rapid, ideal for surfing.
