The English Garden (Englischer Garten) is a large public park in the center of Munich. There are various points of interest including a Chinese Pagoda, a Japanese teahouse, a Greek style temple – the Monopteros, lakes and even artificial streams where one can surf. As the park is really quite large, you’ll want to start early and even break up your visit into 2 trips. Or hire a horse carriage to take you around.
From Marienplatz, you can either walk along Theatinerstrasse or Residenzstrasse to Odeonplatz or take the U3 or U6. From the Central Train Station (Hauptbahnhof), you can take the U4 or U5. From Odeonplatz, walk through the Hofgarten which is an Italian style Renaissance garden located between the Residenz and the English Garden. Walk through an underpass and you will find yourself in front of the lake where there is the Japanese teahouse.
